Community, staff send more than 4,000 Valentine’s Day cards to residents

This year, one of my goals is to have more community involvement and gain more awareness for our facility and residents. As I was thinking about this, I kept thinking about how at Christmas everyone always wants to know what they can do for the residents at the nursing home, but fewer people think about this during other times throughout the year.

So, I decided to challenge local schools, churches and the community in general to send our residents a total of 4,000 valentines by February 13. Letters were sent out, and it was posted on Facebook and shared by word-of-mouth. We were absolutely AMAZED  at the response we got!

We received valentines from schools, youth groups, churches, Girl Scout troops, physician’s offices and staff! On Tuesday of last week, we were at 1,300 or so valentines and I really wondered if we would make it…and we did! On Friday afternoon, we actually went OVER our goal at 4,100 valentines!  However, on Saturday, as we were filling valentine boxes for their party, another staff member brought in some more which pushed us to 4,196 – our staff alone gave 1,069 valentines!

Each resident was able to get 40 individual valentines. This will definitely be something that I want to continue here. The pictures show what over 4,000 valentines look like!
